Sweetwater Creek State Park is a peaceful tract of wilderness only minutes from downtown Atlanta. A wooded trail follows the stream to the ruins of the authenic New Manchester Manufacturing Company built by the enslaved. The company was a textile mill burned during the Civil War.
Meet us at the IHOP parking lot so we can carpool to the park. Come prepared to drive or be a passenger, and have money to help pay for gas and parking. Note that FREE State Park parking passes can be checked out at your local library.
Also, you are encouraged to make donations to keep the hikes free with Hartfield's Hikers, OPALs, and the Atlanta African American Adventurers Meetup group. See Paulette or Carolyn with your donation.
As always, wear comfortable shoes and layered clothing. Bring snacks and water. It is optional to bring your lunch.
