Financial & Administrative Best Practices Conference

Join us on Thursday, September 15, at the diocesan office in Newport News for a day designed for church financial and administrative personnel.  Whether you are new to your job or have been at it for years, this is a wonderful opportunity to learn, ask questions, and connect with your colleagues in other churches. 

The day will begin with Finance 101, covering the basics of audits and internal controls, employment issues, clergy taxes, and other topics.  Then we will have presentations by some of our own administrators and finance people on these topics:

  • Getting more out of ACS (Gale Nicholson, Emmanuel, VB).  If you use ACS and want to know how to use it more effectively, you don’t want to miss this. Gale has been using ACS for many years and has lots of tips, tricks and shortcuts to help you work more efficiently.
  • Reducing Facility Operating Costs (Henry Conde, Galilee, VB). Utilities are among the highest cost centers for most churches. Henry will offer relevant metrics and median current costs for Mid Atlantic churches and proven strategies to work with your Vestry to support your efforts in optimizing your facility electrical consumption.
  • Online Giving (Diane Miller, Old Donation, VB and Dudley Hoyle, Bruton Parish, Williamsburg). More young adults are finding their way back to church and that’s great, but they generally don’t carry cash and use online services and apps instead of checks. There are a number of online giving options that can leverage these spending habits for the good of the church. Diane and Dudley will share their experiences in setting up online giving through American Church and Tithe.ly.

Workshop will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Diocesan Office, 11827 Canon Blvd., Suite 101, Newport News. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m.
