Leading from The Middle (or Vital Center): A Seminar for Team Leaders in School

 Join the Santa Fe Leadership Center and Hillbrook School for an extraordinary seminar for team leaders.  This opportunity will transform the way you work with your teams, motivate others, collaborate, maximize your team's performance, and orchestrate change in your school community. Guest presenters from The Grove and IDEO will join us, as well as Bay Area Management Consultant, Debbie Freed. Through interactive sessions and personal reflection, we will explore these and other questions:
  • Why do you do what you do?
  • Why do you do it in the place where you do it?
  • Why do you care?
  • Where do you get your authority and how do you use it?
  • How do you motivate others to perform at their highest level?
  • How do you align your personal mission and vision with that of your school?
  • How do you use systems thinking and design thinking to attack adaptive challenges in your school?
  • How can you inspire collaboration, creativity and productivity with your team?
  • What are the qualities of highly effective and productive teams?

SESSIONS INCLUDE:

  • The Context of Your Personal Leadership: History, Mission, & Vision
  • The Functions and Dysfunctions of team: An exploration of role, authority, task purpose, and team dynamics
  • Case Studies witten and shared by seminar participants
  • Making Meaning of the Moment: Systems Analysis of Case Studies with guest faculty, Debbie Freed
  • Design Thinking and Problem Solving for School Leaders with IDEO
  • Introduction to theTeam Performance Model and Creating a Visual Roadmap  with guest presenters from The Grove, the Bay Area's leader in visual planning, team performance and graphic facilitation

 SEMINAR FEE:
The cost of the seminar is  $1,375 if registered between January 21, 2011 and June 1, 2011. Late Registration is $1,495. after June 1, 2011.  Some financial assistance is available for all our seminars (call Carla Silver 408-348-8617 to inquire.) Only 40 places are available and we expect the seminar will be filled to capacity, so register soon to secure a spot.

The seminar fee includes:   

  • A full breakfast in the hotel's restaurant each morning

The Silicon Valley is a vital center of creativity, innovation and vasonaentrepreneurship -- skills that are increasingly necessary for outstanding leadership. Los Gatos is a hidden gem in the heart of the valley  located at the base of the Santa Cruz mountains. Like Santa Fe, Los Gatos, offers surroundings conducive to openness, the free exchange of ideas and a healthy discourse among committed professionals. There will be time built into the seminar for participants to enjoy the biking and hiking trails and downtown charm of Los Gatos and the greater Bay Area.

HILLBROOK SCHOOL
Hillbrook School is a JK-8 independent school that provides students with an extraordinary educational experience where kids love to learn and develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to achieve their highest individual potential in school and in life.

Hillbrook is well known in the Valley for its unique blend of challenging academics, life skills and service to others. Ths year, Hilbrook piloted a unique iPad prorgam for seventh grade students that made local and national news.
Hillbrook School is located in Los Gatos, California on a beautiful 14-acre campus where kids explore, play and make discoveries inside and out.

TRAVEL AND HOTEL
Los Gatos is located  just 15 minutes north of the San Jose International Airport and easily accessible by rental car or cab.

The SFLC has has reserved a block of rooms at the Toll House Hotel, a charming boutique hotel in the center of Los Gaots, at an incredible rate for participants - only $149.00 per night.  Individual reservations should be made by calling the Toll House Hotel AFTER February 14, 2011 at 1-800-238-6111 by June 10, 2011.
    
Because of the small size and personal nature of this seminar, is extremely important that all seminar participants arrive in time for the first session and stay through the final session. 
  • The first session begins at 4:00pm on Sunday, July 10 
  • We will say our final goodbyes at noon Thursday, July 14

CANCELLATION POLICY:
The SFLC reserves the right to cancel this seminar if there is insufficient enrollment. In this unlikely event, participants will be notified well in advance of the institute and given a full refund. The SFLC, however, cannot be responsible for any financial obligation incurred by participants because of travel cancellations.

 REFUND POLICY:
When requested in writing, the SFLC will refund registration fees as follows: 75% of registration fee when requested 45 days or more from first day of institute; 50% of registration fee when requested 31–44 days from first day of institute; no refund within 30 days of the first day of institute.
