Thank you for your interest in the YRA's 2020 US Sailing Sanctioned Offshore Safety at Sea Course, to be held on February 22nd at Encinal Yacht Club. This 8 hr course is moderated by Chuck Hawley. Continetal breakfast, lunch and snacks are included in your registration fee. 

Chuck is the current Chairman of the Safety at Sea Committee of US Sailing and has moderated over 50 Safety at Sea Courses in the past 20 years. He is an active sailor, having logged over 40,000 miles on a variety of sail and power craft, including six transoceanic passages.

The course is geared towards crew members of offshore races, long distance cruisers and any sailor wanting to improve his/her sailing skills. The course will cover a variety of topics including Personal Safety Gear, Man Overboard, Emergency Communications, Search and Rescue, Heavy Weather, Storm Sails, Crew Health, Hypothermia, Jury Rigging and Repair, Fire Precautions, Lending Assistance, Life Rafts, and Signals.  When combined with a "Hands On" course this course will meet the requirements for offshore races such as the Pacific Cup.

Participants in this 8hr course are eligible to participate in the "Hands On" portion of a 2 day SAS Offering as long as it happens within one year.
