Getaway with Lori Versaci:

Building Blocks for a Successful Sweater

We would love to have you join us!

Getaway with Lori Versaci: Building Blocks for a Successful Sweater
Saturday, October 17
10:00am - 3:00pm
Cost: $125

We have an incredible day planned for you. We want you to feel like you've spent the day at a spa or a luxury resort, so we are taking care with every detail. The setting is beautiful, the food delicious, and the knitting will be full of laughter and inspiration.

Building Blocks for a Successful Sweater focuses on the various decisions that we make before we start knitting: picking an appropriate pattern and yarn, deciding which size to knit and swatching, as well as some tips about using a written pattern. The topic is interactive and fun and, everyone walks away feeling like they really learned something. Both new and experienced sweater knitters are welcome.

Lori is bringing many, many samples to inpsire you. We will have her Shibui Collection, her Woolfolk Collection and her own personal favorites for you to try on.

So we will also have a fashion show and a lovely lunch and a Woolfolk Yarn Tasting (because everyone should experience every yarn in this line).

This Getaway is taking place at Elevate Art Gallery, just around the corner from String Theory.  It is a beautiful setting with lots of room to move around, chat and learn.

All we need now, is a fun loving group of knitters. Please join us.

************************************************************************************************************

My name is Lori Versaci. Knitting design is my passion, and while I have been knitting most of my life, I have been publishing designs for just three years (I was a management consultant in my previous life — certainly not preparation for this new artistic bend in my life).

I think of my style as classic – with a twist.  I was raised in New England, spend summers in Maine, and I grew up wearing fisherman knits, big coat sweaters, rolled-neck pullovers, and other traditional styles.

Barbara Walker’s books on patterns stitches have always inspired me (I admit I have not one, but two of the original copies published by Scribners in 1968!), so you will see a lot of pattern stitches in my designs.  I love mixing and matching patterns to create texture, and I love to figure out how to vary pattern stitches to create drape, fit, and accent.

In my designs I like to tweak these classics with something unexpected – a mix of pattern stitches that creates an unusual texture or a detail that surprises you, like an asymmetric line or aran with lace. I think of it as “tradition meets style”.
