AROS Choir Festival and Training Event

Training for Atlanta Roswell Clergy and Laity to Increase the Effectiveness of Vital Congregations

Choose from one of the following:

1.  Music & Worship:  Led by Rev. Beth Brown Shugart, Pastor of Worship, Johns Creek UMC.  Recommended for Pastors, Choir Members, Choir Directors, Worship Committees.

This class is offered to assist laity and clergy in understanding the importance of a fully integrated music program to enhance worship.  Cooperative worship planning and the structure of a vital music ministry will also be a part of the class.

2.  The Power of the Breath:  Led by Jeanne Brown, Soprano and Voice Teacher.  Recommended for Singers, Choir Directors

Breath can heal, relax, energize and improve vocal production to create a free, focused, and full sound.  There will be exercises that prepare the body, mind, soul and voice to offer the best to the Lord.  All are essential elements to making a more joyful noise.  Dress comfortably.

3. Communications:  Led by Mary Williams, AROS Director of Lay Speaking Ministries and IT Manager, Roswell CVB. Recommended for Pastors, Church Leaders, Program Staff, Volunteers.

Need to get the word out about  your church but have little to no budget?  All it taks is a little computer time and someone to tell your story.  Join us to explore the benefits of Facebook pages and groups, blogs wanting your story, as well as local online media where you can list your events for free.

4. Pastor/Staff Parish Relations Committee:  Led by Dr. Ed Tomlinson, District Superintendent.  Recommended for Staff Parish Relations Committee.

The District Superintendent will discuss how he wants to work with the committees in appointment making and other issues.  A video message from Bishop Michael Watson will be included.

5. UMC 201:  Led by Sid Linton, Dunwoody UMC Lay Leader.  Recommended for Lay Leaders, Confirmation Leaders, All Committees, Assimilation Teams.

What your lay leadership should know, or be taught, about the United Methodist Church:  What is connectionalism? Why apportionments?  What with United, anyway?  The answers to these and other questions have important historical roots that distinguish us from other Protestant churches.

6.  Money 101:  Led by Virginia MaCahan, Retired Business Administrator, Dunwoody UMC.  Recommended for Treasurer, Finance Committee, Pastor, Finance Staff.

The church needs to have confidence in the people taking care of their finances.  Topics discussed include W-2 preparation, clergy taxes, audits, taxes in Georgia, Foundations, and so much more.

7.  Trustees 101:  Led by Tom Cook, Conference Chancellor.  Recommended for Pastors and Trustee Committees.

Trustees is one of the most important jobs in the church.  Tom will discuss the fiduciary responsibllities they have to the church they serve and their responsibilities under The Book of Discipline.

Choir Festival

Choir will perform at 2:30 on Sunday.  All workshops will follow this opening worship service.
