Spring 2017 Music Composition Techniques and Teaching Methods (MUS 5710)

Online Professional Development through Music-COMP, a recognized professional development provider in collaboration with Castleton University for graduate credits.

Cost: Each course is available for 15 hours workshop credit only ($299 each) or for one graduate credit ($419 each). Take one course or more during the winter/spring 2017 session. Each course content includes: Research and best practice on the topic, online posts and discussion with classmates, dcument planning and implementation into your own music classroom.

Music Composition Techniques and Teaching Methods 
MUS 5710 - Begins March 27, 2017 - May 5, 2017

Instructor: Matt LaRocca, D.M.A.

Compose an original work using free online music notation software (noteflight/Musescore) or the software of their choosing (Sibelius/Finale/etc.) using specific composition techniques and methods. In addition, participants will explore the value of embedding composition into music curriculum, discuss ways to introduce composition to students in grades 3-12, and learn methods of critiquing and developing a student work. 

This course requires 2.5 hours participation per week for six weeks to complete successfully.

No in-person meetings, no specific dates or times to meet, except participants may be asked to participate in a Skype session TBA. Assignments are due on a weekly basis. Work to your schedule throughout the six weeks of your course.
