Social Justice Discussion Group: Microaggressions and what you can do

Microaggressions are defined as the everyday, subtle, intentional — and oftentimes unintentional — interactions or behaviors that communicate some sort of bias toward historically marginalized groups.  On Tuesday 11/30 we will discuss the Ted Talk by Dr Yolanda Flores Niemann titled
Microaggressi
ons in the Classroom.”  We encourage you to view the 18 minute video before the discussion group meets.  Ted Talk Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZahtlxW2CIQ&t=55s

Here are a few questions to consider.  They will serve as discussion starters when we meet:

  1. How has the video touched your heart?
  2. Has the talked changed or added to your views about what living as a marginalized person means?
  3. Can you share an idea or image from the talk that made an impression on you?
We look forward to being with you on November 30.
