Healthy soil is the foundation of growing great plants and selling great vegetables. Learn the basics of building healthy soil for your farm. The workshop will consist of both classroom instruction on the science of soils and then a farm tour. Topics discussed will include: basic soil science and what's in the soil, using cover crops, no-till farming, and much more!
The workshops will start at the Sedgwick County Extension Education Center with 2-3 hours of classroom instruction and discussions, followed by a tour of 1-2 local farms to see their soil management practices in action. Limited transportation will be available for the farm tours.
The book, Building Soils for Better Crops: Sustainable Soil Management, will be provided to each participant as part of a grant from the Kansas Department of Agriculture. Break snacks and drinks will be provided as part of the workshop.
