Growing Growers ICT - Building and Managing Healthy Soils 

Soil health is absolutely essential to the success of a farm or community garden project – but how can you get it? This workshop will explore foundational aspects of soil science and important methods for increasing your soil’s health, including compost, cover crops, tillage, and more. Better soil leads to more productive food crops and a resilient, diversified ecosystem. Join us to learn how to get there!

Our speaker for this workshop will be Candy Thomas, a regional soil health specialist with NRCS. Candy sits on the board for No Till on the Plains, a nonprofit dedicated to educating growers about agricultural production systems that model nature to build soil health. 

We will tour Pearson Farm, the farm that helped to launch Common Ground Producers and Growers / Mobile Market. Come hear from Donna McClish and David Pearson on their decades of expertise managing soil and growing food for the greater Wichita community. 

If you order book(s) with your registration, we ask that you pick them up at the Sedgwick County Extension office if at all possible. If this isn't possible we can send them by mail. You will receive more information on this once you register. 

The classroom portion of this workshop is being offered as a hybrid event, both in person and online via Zoom.  You also have the option of receiving a link to the recorded version for viewing later.  The farm tour, to be conducted approximately 4:30-6:00pm, is in person only.  Location for the farm tour is TBD.
