Ohio is one of the top 5 states in the country with deaths related to drug overdose.  As a result many of Ohio’s children are at risk for countless experiences such as violence in their homes, absent caregivers, higher levels of stress, poverty, neglect, and harsh parenting.  Explore the rick factors these children are susceptible as a result of being embedded in alcohol and drug environments (AOD) and learn how trauma is sustained.  Understand that risk mitigation involves taking steps to reduce the adverse effects of those AOD systems on children who may have trauma.

Objectives:

  1. Develop a basic understanding of AOD environments and be able to identify the risk factors of children living in those environments.
  2. Understand key concepts of trauma experienced by children in AOD environments.
  3. Participants will learn ways to mitigate the risks of children living in AOD environments and strategies to help build connection and increase resilience to ensure success in life.
