Description

It’s not a difficult concept, and it’s practical. Everybody has problems and understands the concept of problem solving – we just help people problem solve on purpose. Could your clients benefit from being better problem solvers? As a supervisor, could your staff benefit from being better problem solvers? SPS is a brief solution oriented cognitive behavioral tool that is effective, inexpensive, and accessible.

 Strategic Problem Solving: Introduction…

-Complements and enhances participants’ skills.                                                                                                     -Facilitates effective intervention, group & classroom management techniques.                                             -Helps people understand relationship between decision making and outcomes.                                           -Improves youth and adult client engagement, motivation, and buy-in, to increase cooperation, and     compliance.                                                                                                                                                                    -Increases awareness of potential “red flags” and responses to high risk youth.                                                -Provides crisis & conflict de-escalation, management, and resolution options.                                                -Has proven effective with resistant populations such as at-risk teens, people dealing with substance     abuse & addictions, and those under court supervision.                                                                                       -Is appropriate for youth workers, bachelors, master’s or doctoral level educators, therapists,    counselors,  social workers; children service workers, faith-based providers, and juvenile & criminal   justice workers.

Presenter:Thomas Cox, MS, TM  has worked closely with families from every socioeconomic level and diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and he has helped families work effectively with the schools, courts, and social service agencies as resources to help strengthen the family. Thomas was raised in the church and currently worships at Northeast Church of Christ. He is a single parent of three children. His youngest is on the police force in Tenn., his oldest is a nurse in Vancouver Washington. His oldest son is a Marine stationed in Calif.Thomas has been the Family Therapist for Bethesda Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program, run an adolescent day treatment program for at-risk kids, and been the director for the Anxiety and Depression Disorder Treatment program with Motivational Resources Inc. and been the Director of Chemical Dependency Outpatient Services for Transitions Inc. in Northern Kentucky. Since 2014 he has been the Executive Director of Families Matter, a nonprofit that offers problem solving as an alternative to juvenile detention and as Truancy Diversion alternatives. Thomas has over 30 years of experience working with parents and teens in a variety of settings; as a family mediator, a youth and family minister, and a chemical dependency counselor and administrator. In 2019 he launched Tri-D Center to provide problem solving training, programs and services. He has also been a professional comic for the last 12 years, once recognized as Funniest Person in NKy, and he has been a host and emcee for a variety of programs and groups.

 Continuing Education                                                                                                             Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapists: The Child Focus, Inc. Training Center is approved through the Ohio Counselor and Social Worker Board. This program is offered for 3.0 hours of continuing education for counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists. Social Work Provider#: RSX129410 Counselor Provider#: RCX029503 Marriage and Family Therapist Provider#: RTX091001                                                                                                                                               Psychologists: The Child Focus, Inc. Training Center is approved by the Ohio Psychological Association MCE program to offer continuing education for Ohio psychologists. This program is offered for  3.0 hours of continuing education for psychologists. Child Focus, Inc., 00PD-3109-52668, maintains responsibility for the program.                                                                                                                                     Ohio Chemical Dependency Professional Board: Pending Approval for 3.0 hours of continuing education in Domain 2-Prevention Education & Service Delivery for Certified Prevention Specialist Assistant, Certified Prevention Specialist, Certified Prevention Consultant, Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant, Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor II, Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor III and Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor.                                                                                                                                           

Cancellation Policy: The Training Center must be notified 7 days prior to a training via telephone, fax or email in order to cancel a registration and receive a full refund.

We will send information regarding updates and cancellations to the email address used to register for the training. We will also have this information updated on the CFI website under the Training Tab.
