Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is a psychosocial treatment model designed to treat posttraumatic stress and related emotional and behavioral problems in children and adolescents. Initially developed to address the psychological trauma associated with child sexual abuse, the model has been adapted for use with children who have a wide array of traumatic experiences, including domestic violence, traumatic loss, and the often multiple psychological traumas experienced by children prior to foster care placement.

Training Goal:  To prepare clinicians to begin the practice of Trauma-Focused CBT

Training Objectives:  By completing this training, participants will be able to:

1. Learn about the history and development of TF-CBT.

2. Understand the nature and depth of research that supports the efficacy of TF-CBT.

3. Increase their understanding the focus points of TF-CBT and fidelity guidelines.

4. Define and identify strategies for safe and effective gradual exposure throughout the TF-CBT model components.

5. Identify challenges, opportunities, and strategies to engage youth and families in the TF-CBT process.

6. Define and identify each component of TF-CBT, the goals of each component, and identify at least 3 strategies and resources therapists can use as they plan on implementing the model in their therapeutic practice.
