Come tour the Davis Material Recovery and Transfer Facility to get an inside look at how residential waste, as well as comingled recyclables, are processed for recovery of valuable materials. Recyclables currently being recovered include cardboard, plastics #1 and #2, aluminum cans, and steel cans. Non-recyclable plastics and some paper are combined to create an engineered fuel which can be used to offset the use of coal. Organics, such as food waste and grass, are concentrated and can be used as feed stock for anerobic digestion which generates renewable natural gas.
