Chicago Regional Introduction to Systemic Racism Workshop

This Introduction to Systemic Racism workshop introduces stakeholders to the idea that racism is a systemic, institutional problem of power and creates the rationale for a structural intervention to dismantle it. The Introductory Workshop demonstrates that productive conversations about race are possible and that Chicago ROAR has an effective methodology for facilitating them. Participants also get a sense that antiracism work does not stop with participating in a workshop; that we also have a strategic methodology to assist people in dismantling racism in their institutions.

A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Professional Continuing Education Credit

Crossroads Antiracism Organizing and Training and its regional program, Chicago Regional Organizing for Antiracism (Chicago ROAR), have received approval to offer Continuing Education and Professional Development credits for this workshop.

About Chicago Regional Organizing for Antiracism (Chicago ROAR)

Chicago ROAR is a Regional Program of Crossroads Antiracism Organizing and Training. The Mission of Chicago Regional Organizing for Antiracism is to dismantle systemic racism and build antiracist multicultural diversity within institutions and communities implemented primarily by training institutional transformation teams and guided by the following principles:

  • The work of Chicago ROAR is based upon a systemic analysis of racism and its individual, institutional and cultural manifestations;
  • Chicago ROAR seeks to be accountable in its work to those who share a common analysis of racism, and especially to communities of color;
  • Chicago ROAR understands its antiracism work to be part of a national and global movement for racial justice and social equality;
  • Chicago ROAR recognizes that resistance to racism also requires resistance to all other forms of social inequality and oppression.
