Two Training Programs:

Fidelity to Ayres Sensory Integration Intervention
&
Goal Attainment Scaling
as a Meaningful Outcome Measure for Sensory Integration:  A Training Program

Fidelity to Ayres Sensory Integration®

Presented by
Teresa May-Benson, ScD, OTR/L
(with Jane Koomar, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA)

Outcomes research on a specific type of intervention must define the intervention including theory, principles and methods and then ensure that the intervention provided during the study is faithful to the description.  The Fidelity Measure of Ayres Sensory Integration® (ASI) intervention is a reliable and valid tool that summarizes the essential structural and process elements of therapeutic practice using sensory integration theory and methods. During this workshop, participants will learn the essential elements of ASI   Intervention as delineated in the ASI Fidelity Measure and learn to use this tool to improve research and practice.

OBJECTIVES:  Participants will be able to:
1.     Discuss ways in which the Fidelity Measure contributes to
     research and evidence-based practice.

2.     List four main structural elements essential in the provision of

     therapy using ASI.

3.     Describe the 10 process elements to the delivery of ASI.

4.     Identify interventions that meet the criteria for ASI and those

     that do not.

5.     Identify ways in which the structural and processelements of

ASI intervention informs occupational therapy practice.

Goal Attainment Scaling as a Meaningful Outcome Measure for Sensory Integration

Presented by
Teresa May-Benson, ScD, OTR/L

This course presents an in-depth look at Goal Attainment Scaling (GAS) methodology and its application as a functional outcome measure for occupational therapy using a sensory integration approach. This training program will present theoretical and practical information needed to prepare therapists for the use of the GAS methodology for both clinical and research applications.

OBJECTIVES: Participants will be able to:

1.  Describe GAS theory and methodology and its application

to outcome measurement in sensory integration.

2.  Describe the psychometric properties of GAS and its

strengths and weaknesses related to its application as an
     outcome in sensory integration intervention.

3.   Demonstrate the ability to write appropriate, reliable, and
      functional GAS outcome goals.

4.   Implement GAS methodology as a functional outcome for
      sensory integration-based treatment.

 SCHEDULE:*  (6.5 contact hours)

8:00    Registration
8:30    Introduction to GAS  - History of development of   GAS  - GAS Model
10:00  BREAK
10:15  Characteristics of GAS Objectives - Identifying issues to be measured  - Understanding
