About the Instructors
Kelly Dorfman, MS, LND is one of the world's foremost experts on using nutrition to improve brain function, energy and mood. She collaborates with other medical professionals to help people develop creative strategies to address complex ailments and symptoms. Kelly has a master's degree in nutrition/biology and is a licensed nutrition dietitian. She resides in Maryland with her husband and has three children.
Jessica Lewis, MS, OTR/L received her Master of Science degree in occupational therapy from the University of New Hampshire. She is currently the Oral Motor Coordinator at OTA. She has attended the SOS Approach to Feeding and MORE courses which have expanded this area of knowledge. Jessica has also completed the Sensory Integration Assessment and Intervention certification course (SIPT) and is a certified provider of Therapeutic Listening.
Lori Goodrich, OTR/L, C/NDT is the Assistant Clinical Director at OTA The Koomar Center. She completed her Bachelor Degree in Occupational Therapy at Quinnipiac University, graduating Summa cum Laude. She has completed the Sensory Integration Assessment and Intervention Certification (SIPT) and is also NDT Certified. Lori has been trained in a wide range of oral motor based programs, including the SOS Approach to Feeding and Debra Beckman’s Oral Motor techniques.
Completion Requirements: To receive contact hours for these courses you must attend the course in its entirety and participate in in-course lab activities.

This course is designed to help therapists and teachers improve clinical outcomes by identifying children who are not reaching their potential because of poor diet or insufficient nutrients for cognitive development. These children may be eating foods that are irritating the system or missing nutrients needed to create neurological connections. Learn how to recognize nutritional problems that may be slowing down progress. Discover creative strategies for low muscle tone, cognitive enhancement, and improving classroom function as well as nutritional strategies that support speech, occupational, and physical therapies will be discussed.

An effective approach to mealtimes that incorporates all the components necessary for maximizing success.
The SMILE Approach course will break down the essential steps needed for the evaluation and treatment of selective eaters with sensory-motor based concerns. SMILE places a strong emphasis on gathering and synthesizing information from the evaluation process in order to develop an effective and individualized treatment plan. The treatment aspect of the course will teach participants effective and motivating treatment approaches, as well as focus on carryover strategies and parent/client education. Participants should be able to walk away with a sense of how to work with selective eaters and support them in the clinic, home, and community settings.
