A Spiral Foundation Sensory Integration Treatment Intensive:

Refining Praxis Intervention for Children with SPD

Presented by Teresa May-Benson, ScD, OTR/L, FAOTA

Monday, August 17 - Friday, August 21, 2015

This unique five-day mentorship intensive is for therapists interested in further developing their expertise in sensory integration-based praxis intervention. An advanced course, this intensive focuses on hands-on experience with specialized therapy equipment to assist therapists in understanding the clinical reasoning behind interventions for praxis deficits and how to implement those interventions effectively. Therapists work in pairs, treating the same children three times throughout the week. After each session, ample time is given for in-depth discussion, analysis of interventions, and feedback from our experienced clinicians.

Daily lecture/discussion sessions are guided by participant requests, as well as covering topics such as developing the therapeutic relationship, facilitation of adaptive responses, assessment of praxis, use of goal attainment scaling for sensory integration research and practice.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of this course participants will be able to:

  1. Plan and implement intervention for Praxis under the mentorship of an experienced therapist.
  2. Administer clinical observations of sensory integration and Praxis and complete a clinical assessment to assess children for sensory integration problems and Praxis problems.
  3. Use suspended equipment for sensory integration intervention safely and appropriately to maximize children's adaptive responses.
  4. Develop a therapeutic relationship with children with Praxis problems to maximize the child's sensory integration intervention.
