Refining Praxis Intervention for Children with SPD: Intensive Mentorship Program
Presented by:
Teresa May-Benson, ScD, OTR/L, FAOTA
Monday, August 14 - Friday, August 18, 2017
This unique five-day mentorship intensive is limited to ten therapists who wish to develop further expertise in sensory integration-based praxis intervention. An advanced course, this intensive focuses on hands-on experience with specialized therapy equipment to assist therapists in understanding the clinical reasoning behind interventions for praxis deficits and how to implement those interventions effectively. Therapists work in pairs, working with the same children three times throughout the week under the supervision of an experienced occupational therapist. After each session ample time is given for in-depth discussion, analysis of interventions, and feedback from our experience clinicians. Daily lecture/discussion sessions are guided by participant requests, as well as covering topics such as developing the therapeutic relationship, facilitation of adaptive responses, assessment of praxis, and intervention for ideational problems. Instructional methods includ lecture, small group discussion, and hands-on activities.
Completion of both a sensory integration theory (e.g. Essentials of Sensory Integration Theory ; WPS Course 1) and a sensory integration intervention course (e.g. Essentials of Sensory Integration Intervention ; WPS Course 4) is highly recommended. It is also recommended that applicants have read Sensory Integration Theory and Practice and Understanding the Nature of Sensory Integration with Diverse Populations. Participants must have their own professional liability insurance.
