For 2018, the Spiral Foundation Live Talk series will bring you a year full of talks on clinical reasoning related to various aspect of Occupational therapy practice related to sensory integration intervention. You have been asking for more clinical application of information and we have heard you!  Join us in 2018 as we explore sensory integration practice.

For each talk we will present a clinical case which will illustrate the application of assessment and intervention of a particular area of sensory integration dysfunction in clinical practice.  We will discuss clinical reasoning for selecting and interpreting assessment information and for identifying intervention needs and treatment strategies.

So you want to implement a sensory diet program for your client. How do you determine what needs to done or if a sensory diet program is appropriate?  What activities should be done and when?  How do you determine if your program is effective?  This live talk will discuss the clinical reasoning behind how to determine the need for a sensory diet program, how to develop one and what to look for to evaluate efficacy. A case study will be used to illustrate key points and activities in this process. 

Learning Objectives
By the end of this LiveTalk the participant will be able to:

  1. Identify 3 reasons for utilizing a sensory diet program with a client.
  2. State the key components of a sensory diet program.
  3. Describe 2 ways to evaluate efficacy of a sensory diet program. 

About the Speaker: Teresa May-Benson is the Executive Director of the Spiral Foundation as well as a practicing occupational therapist at OTA The Koomar Center. She is active in conducting research related to sensory integration through the Spiral Foundation’s Sensory Processing Research Center and Laboratory. She is a well-known lecturer and researcher on sensory integration theory and intervention, has authored book chapters and articles on praxis and sensory integration, and completed her doctoral dissertation on ideational praxis. Dr. May-Benson received her bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University and her master’s degree from Boston University with a concentration in sensory integration and school system therapy. She was a Maternal and Child Health Fellow in the Doctoral Program in Therapeutic Studies at Boston University. She has received the Virginia Scardinia Award of Excellence from AOTA for her work in ideational praxis.
