The Adult/Adolescent Sensory History is available now! 

The culmination of years of research and work, the Adult/Adolescent Sensory History, is designed as a self-report assessment of sensory and motor behaviors commonly observed in individuals with difficulties processing and integrating sensory information. The purpose of this assessment is to help identify adults and adolescents ages 13 to 95 who experience problems in sensory processing and integration as well as assist therapists in clinical reasoning when creating interventions for these individuals. Based on the conceptual model of sensory processing and sensory integration proposed by A. Jean Ayres, this measure is designed to identify difficulties in five key areas of functioning: Sensory Discrimination, Sensory Modulation, Postural-Ocular Skills, Praxis, and Social-Emotional Functioning.

Webinars are online presentations geared towards professionals. Participants who call in live have the opportunity to participate in a question/answer session with the speaker. All registrants, regardless of live attendance, receive a download of the recorded webinar following the presentation.

This webinar will identify challenges experienced by students in school that may be related to difficulties with sensory processing.  A variety of intervention strategies will be discussed including direct service both in and out of the classroom, accommodations and strategies in the classroom, consultation to teachers, whole class intervention, and tiered intervention based on a Response to Intervention Model.  In addition, activity ideas for each of these areas will be presented. 

Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar participants will be able to:

  1. Identify challenges experienced by students in school that may be related to difficulties with sensory processing
  2. Describe the similarities and differences between sensory-based challenges and behavioral based challenges
  3. List a variety of intervention methods used to address sensory processing disorder in school, and to see examples of activity ideas for each type of service.
  4. Describe the appropriate use of each intervention type: direct service, consultation, whole classroom intervention, and tiered intervention using a Response to Intervention model.
Susan Curtis, MS, OTR/L is a staff occupational therapist at OTA The Koomar Center and South Shore Therapies.  She has extensive experience in sensory integration evaluations and intervention. Over her career she has worked in a wide variety of settings with children from birth through adolescence. Susan also possesses specialized training for with infants and children with feeding issues. She has been an instructor of the Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests administration course for over 20 years for both Sensory Integration International and the USC/WPS Program and is also a provider for the Therapeutic Listening Program.
