Essentials of Administration of Sensory Integration Assessments

This course is Part Three of the five part Program of Essential Competencies in Sensory Integration. Learn more about the program HERE.

This course, building on Course 2, will introduce participants to standardized assessments of sensory integration functioning. Participants will learn how to administer the Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests as well as Ayres Clinical Observations.  The course format, a combination of lecture, hands on instruction and practice, and small group discussion allows opportunities for practical learning and individualized feedback on assessment techniques.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this course participants will be able to:

  1. Administer the Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests.
  2. Administer the Ayres Clinical Observations. 
  3. Identify the purpose of the subtest of the Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests 
  4. Identify additional observations which may be made during assessment of the SIPT and Ayres Clinical Observations.

About the Speaker: Susan Curtis, MS, OTR/L is a staff occupational therapist at OTA The Koomar Center and South Shore Therapies.  She has extensive experience in sensory integration evaluations and intervention. Over her career she has worked in a wide variety of settings with children from birth through adolescence. Susan also possesses specialized training for with infants and children with feeding issues. She has been an instructor of the Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests administration course for over 20 years for both Sensory Integration International and the USC/WPS Program and is also a provider for the Therapeutic Listening Program.

Prerequisites: This course is limited to occupational and physical therapy participants who have completed Courses 1 and 2 of this series, or who have completed course 1 of the WPS/USC SIPT courses and Course 2 of this series. All participants must bring with them the SIPT test manual, a stopwatch (NOT on a cell phone) and every two participants must have bring a SIPT test kit. Participants may also wish to bring highlighters.
