HAND AND POWER TOOLS
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
To promote the highest level of safety for persons using hand and power tools through an understanding of possible hazards for various tools and proper methods to use to preclude injury.
OBJECTIVES
After completing this program students will be able to:
- Identify potential hazards with tool use in the following operations:
- Hand digging, shoveling, raking and grading
- Maintaining equipment
- Building and constructing landscape related structures
- Tree felling, trimming and pruning
- Grass trimming and leaf blowing
- Understand possible hazardous conditions and unsafe acts which can lead to injury using hand and power tools.
- Perform a safety inspection for detect defective tools and the need to take such tools out-of-service.
- Recognize tool safety rules and apply same to the tools in their inventory.
- Understand the distinct and subtle differences in hand tools and power tools and specific precautions required for each type.
- Identify hazards involved with the use of small engines, chain saws and tree trimming and felling.
- Become familiar with the proper handling techniques for a variety of hand and power tools.
