Local Leaders. Global Impact.

Breaking Barriers for Better Health

If you’ve met with a doctor recently, chances are you had a virtual experience—perhaps connecting by video or scheduling an appointment online.

Now what if you could access all of your health records electronically—from doctor’s notes and lab results to current medications and immunizations? Healthcare Informatics, the specialization of maximizing technology to collect and share health data, already makes that possible.

However, not all patients have access to their electronic health records, which hinders them from making informed decisions about their own health. Physicians and public health organizations are faced with similar obstacles that consume time and money, such as having to manually gather data from multiple sources. Healthcare Informatics seeks to reduce those delays and produce life-saving solutions.

Our next Local Leaders Global Impact event features two leaders in this groundbreaking profession—Becky Fox, Chief Nursing Information Officer at Atrium Health; and Mary Kennedy, Healthcare Informatics Lecturer at Northeastern University.

As nurses, Fox and Kennedy both risked stepping out of the traditional clinical environment to meld with the world of technology, breaking barriers to improve healthcare outcomes. Join our discussion to hear how they became change agents in the field and how the expansion of healthcare informatics can lead to a more informed patient and, ultimately, healthier society.
