The AMTA RI Chapter is pleased to have Scott Raymond, LMT, BCTMB join us again to present to our members!

Founder of StrongHouse Continuing Education, Scott has been a licensed massage therapist and active volunteer for the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) since 1998.  He was an instructor of kinesiology at the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy for 11 years, taught for The World Skin Project, a non profit organization that he co-founded with Annie Powell, and taught for many AMTA Chapters.

His practice is an eclectic blend of eastern and western styles of bodywork.  He has studied the work of Bob Pecora PTA, LMT, Bob King, Ralph Stevens, the Lotus Palm method of Thai-Yoga Bodywork, Cupping Therapy, Gua ShaEmbodyoga teacher training, and he is a certified personal trainer from the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

When he was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis in June of 2017, he needed to move his practice into a facility that was handicap accessible, and close to home.  Not knowing what the future would hold, he knew that it was time to rekindle his passion for teaching, create classes, and host other quality continuing education providers.

After 6 weeks at Gaylord Hospital, he was able to learn to walk again, and he is back on his feet!

Scott will be presenting An Intro to working on Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Dysfunction!

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Dysfunction affects approximately 10 million Americans annually and massage is an often overlooked yet extremely effective approach to TMJ Dysfunction. In this introductory class, we will review the anatomy and bio-mechanics involved in TMJ dysfunction along with common complaints and how to address the symptoms of TMJ dysfunction while staying within your scope of practice. This is a hands-on class for the treatment of TMJ Dysfunction incorporating neuromuscular, myofascial, and introducing intra-oral techniques. All workshop attendees will be required to bring and wear masks and gloves (there will be gloves available on site for anyone that does not have them), the AMTA RI chapter will be supplying face shields to each attendee for added protection. Once class begins you will pair up with one other person and stay paired with that person only throughout the duration of the class, the presenter will be displaying techniques on screen for all to see.

This introductory course will be a lead into a full one day TMJ workshop being sponsored by the RI chapter to take place Sunday, November 21, 2021.  All those in attendance for the introduction on October 17, 2021 will have the first chance to register onsite for the November workshop.  There will be a limit of 50 attendees for this workshop.  Face shields will be supplied again by the chapter for this event.
