The Status of Women in South Carolina
Speaker: Ali Titus, Advocacy & Awareness Program Manager
Ali is originally from the Columbia, SC area and received an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Presbyterian College followed by a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from College of Charleston, where she focused on nonprofit management and social justice. She began her nonprofit career in institutional advancement at Chicago Kent College of Law followed by The Citadel Foundation. Ali’s passion for social equity took her to work for the American Civil Liberties Union of SC, where she was Director of Development. She joins Center for Women by way of Coastal Community Foundation of SC where she served as Program Officer and facilitated the granting of more than $1.5M annually to nonprofits across a nine-county service area. While at Coastal Community Foundation, Ali also served as primary author on the organization’s Statement of Commitment to Equity and Inclusion and played a crucial role in shaping the Lowcountry Unity Fund, which was established in the aftermath of the Emanuel AME Massacre to address structural racism.
In addition to her work in the nonprofit sector, Ali serves on City of Charleston’s Commission for Women and is a Board Member of Charleston Freedom Schools. In January of 2017, Ali was one of a team of nine women who organized and executed the Women’s March in Charleston, which welcomed more than 3,000 people to Brittlebank Park in one of the largest acts of public demonstration to happen in our city.
When she’s not working to make SC a more accessible and just place for all citizens, Ali enjoys playing with her dog, cooking all day, and listening to records.
