February is Heart Health Month. CREW Charleston has invited the American Heart Association (AHA) to speak to us around women’s heart health. The AHA has assembled a panel of clinicians to discuss cardiovascular risks that are inherent to women. As the #1 killer of both men and women, we encourage you to attend and share information learned with women you know, we are saving lives -  one person at a time.

We encourage you to wear red to the luncheon to support heart health month!

Panel Members:

Karen Gersch, MD

Dr. Gersch is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon. with Palmetto Cardiovascular & Thoracic Associates. She received her medical degree from East Carolina University, completed her general surgery residency at Creighton University and a cardiothoracic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburg. In addition, she completed her fellowship in minimally invasive and robotic cardiac and thoracic surgery at East Carolina University. She specializes in performing minimally invasive bypass surgery, valve surgery, lung surgery and tumor removal from the chest, and also performs traditional open heart, lung and chest surgeries.

Patti Hart, DNP, RN

Patti Hart, DNP, RN, is the Associate Chief Nursing Officer at the Medical University of South Carolina.  She is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University where she obtained her Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing and her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Old Dominion University.  She is certified in Pediatric Nursing and as a Nurse Executive.  She has a passion for women’s heart health and served on fundraising boards both in Pennsylvania and Charleston.

Brittany Stofko, DO

Brittany Stofko, DO, comes to Carolina Women’s Care from Knoxville, Tennessee, where she practiced at Women’s Health Specialists for Tennova Healthcare System. Prior to her role in Tennessee, she was Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. She received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and she completed her OB/GYN residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Stofko is married and has two children.

In his role as Development Manager, his efforts are focused mainly on multi million dollar  mixed-use projects located in the Greater Baltimore/Washington, D.C., Richmond , VA and Charleston ,SC. Mr. Olson has a Bachelor’s in Marketing and Management from Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia.
