Practical Ayurveda Principles: Navigating Ones Unique Nutritional Needs

Join Dr. Uma Purighalla and Dr. Laura Gorham for a workshop on Practical Ayurveda Principles and how you can learn to navigate your own unique nutritional needs. Dr. Uma will walk participants through essential Ayurveda principles and Dr. Laura will close-out the workshop with an introduction to essential oils.*

      Dr. Uma Purighalla graduated from Drexel University College   of Medicine in 1994. She did her internship in Internal Medicine   at Allegheny General Hospital in 1995 and completed her   medical residency at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan in 1997.   She stayed on as a Chief Resident and teaching assistant for   New York Medical College in 1998. Dr. Purighalla has been   practicing Internal Medicine since 1999 in the South Hills of   Pittsburgh. She is a member of Preferred Primary Care   Physicians and is board certified through the American Board of   Internal Medicine.                                                                                     While Dr. Purighalla practices traditional Internal Medicine,   she has a particular interest in lifestyle medicine, as a member   of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. She emphasizes   treatment and prevention with whole food plant based   nutrition,  mindful meditation practices and certain ayurvedic   and yoga practices that she has been trained in.

Dr. Laura Gorham graduated from The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 2003. She completed her medical residency and boards in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 2007.   Her practice experience includes Inpatient Pediatric Rehabilitation and Feeding, Inpatient Medicine, Adult and Pediatric Urgent Care, and Pediatric Emergency Medicine.  While she currently practices part-time at The Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh in the Department of Emergency Medicine, her full time career and passion are in wellness and yoga.  She is the owner of and lead teacher at The Shala of Pittsburgh Ashtanga Yoga, Pittsburgh's only dedicated Ashtanga Yoga Studio. 

Additionally, she is a certified and licensed medical acupuncturist.  She is also well versed in and passionate about Essential Oils.   Laura aims to educate and coach her patients and students on how to live a healthy lifestyle, as she believes that healthy living is truly the best medicine.
