Use of Force Instructor Certification Program-Firearm Week 

The Use of Force Instructor Certification by SPPD-PDI has changed significantly this year based on the feedback of participants in 2012.  The certification process will involve a series of courses to be taken over an extended period of time in 2013.  The intention of this is to improve the skill level of the participants while alleviating an agency's burden of losing an officer for more than 2 weeks at one time.

Here is what the Program now looks like.

FOR FIREARM INSTRUCTOR PORTION:

St Paul Police Outdoor Range, Maplewood; This week will consist of the firearms portion of the training.  Hosted entirely at our range, this component will develop solid and safe instructor skills during courses of fire.  Students will learn the difference between qualification and training courses of fire.  The student’s own firearm handling skills will be challenged throughout the course.  During this portion, students will participate in instructor development activities designed to boost confidence and ability to instruct large and small groups. 

Equipment:  Participants are required to bring their duty weapon with duty belt and a method of carry which is consistent with their duty assignment, and at least 3 magazines.  Eye and ear protection are also required, and a baseball style cap is recommended. 

 Ammunition: Each student will need to bring 1500 rounds of ball or practice ammunition.
