REPORT WRITING FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT
This course will cover report writing from the perspective of the officer, the supervisor, and the public occupying the jury box. Topics to be covered will also include Use of Force, report construction, report timelines, information gathering, and the positive and negative outcomes of a well written versus a poorly written report. The format of the class will consist of lecture as well as break-out group activities.
Instructor: Retired Saint Paul Police Officer Terry Erdman
Terry is a 29-year veteran of the St. Paul Police Department who was assigned to the Training Unit in the capacity of firearms/range instructor. He was a training officer for over 17 years, instructing police officers of varying rank and experience. Terry has also been specifically requested to speak to civilian and sworn personnel on a multitude of topics. Terry was the lead instructor for the SPPD’s Taser and Emergency Vehicle Operations programs. He was a Use of Force Instructor, Firearms Instructor and lead the instruction for the SPPD’s FTO courses. Terry’s knowledge, efforts and consistent work products are described as “stellar” by his peers and supervisors.
