THIRTEENTH ANNUAL BASSET HOUND WADDLE 2011
Last year had some distressing hiccups (a later start, bigger parade, confusion on the gathering point and a VERY hot day, with a small pooped pup truck and not enough water on hand) and we do want to reassure you that measures have been taken to ensure that this year will be a much safer experience!! This year we are starting earlier in the day (so not as hot!) AND we will have a LARGE trailer to serve as our 'pooped pup truck' so there will be plenty of room for tired hounds. We'll have more water on board. We WILL meet at the parking lot at Reichert to get ready for the parade and so there won't be any confusion. It's more shady as well.
GOODY BAGS, INCLUDING A SPECIAL GIFT FOR YOU ALL, WILL BE GIVEN OUT AT THE END OF THE PARADE, BACK AT THE PICNIC FIELD so you don't have to carry everything while you are walking! Take your collar ribbon to exchange for your goody bag!
Parade starts 10am - we need to be ready by 10am so we need a dedicated team of volunteers to come early to help decorate the vehicles and get the order of our contingent organized! I need volunteers to contact me NOW so I can assign them to tasks. More information on the website HERE.
PRE-REGISTRATION IS ENCOURAGED... you are welcome to register on the day, but the charge increases to $15 for your first hound PLUS $10 for each additional hound.
Registration desks will be AT THE PICNIC FIELD, MARION PARK, GRANT AVENUE (the end of the Waddle route). We will run a shuttle bus, as usual, to take you back to the start line, or you will need to walk the ten blocks back yourself! Come early to make sure there is time to get you all back there. Drivers can drop off their families and dogs at the start (Reichert and Grant) and then drive to the Lucky's parking lot where they will park, cross the road to the baseball field, register for the family, collecting a collar ribbon for each hound, and get the shuttle back, which will help give more people a ride! You will need the collar ribbon to swap for a goodie bag at the end of the Waddle.
Please note, Basset Hounds only in the parade unless you have a service dog.
This is our major fundraiser of the year. Pledges are encouraged. Download the pledge form here or go to our website if that link won't work for you. EVEN BETTER - try out our FirstGiving link. Follow the easy to use template, upload a photo of your hound and write an appeal to support him/her in their Waddle walk, and send it out to your whole address list via email. You will be very surprised how many of your family, friends and work colleagues will donate a few dollars for you. No actual cash to collect and have to send in. Your donors will know that their money is coming straight to the Rescue, and you can see who donates so you can send a personal thank you!
Remember, the hound who raises the most money gets a chance to be the King or Queen of next year's parade (and a super prize to take home for the year)! We will be counting the pledges after the parade, and will announce the winner at the picnic.
This year's Queen of the Waddle will be Princess, one of the hounds belonging to our very special friends and major donors, Donna and Mike Hagerty. Her 'partner' will be Queen Gigi... Gigi is the hound with the very damaged front legs. After wonderful surgery provided at a discounted cost to us by Dr Gurevitch, her legs are now straight and she's enjoying a very active life!
