MIND

Business Based on Quality and Commitment

Melinda's Biscotti, under the direction of local entrepreneurs Melinda Cownden and Alun Hodgson, became a leader in the competitive market of commercial baking by maintaining a commitment to focused goals and quality.

Started in a rented kitchen, Melinda Cownden worked nights and weekends to bake her biscotti.  When told she should stick to the markets because commercial production was too complicated, it only served to confirm her resolve.  Learning about foodsafe and approved kitchens, she kept going.  On her own, she maintained six customers, calling for orders during her work breaks, baking and delivering in her spare time, but dreams are built on hard work and determination and today she is happy that she didn't quit.

From the rented kitchen, Melinda's Biscotti moved into the first commercial, residential bakery in Sidney, which is a converted garage.  From six customers and three flavours, the little business that could grew to serve over 100 customers with seven flavours in two sizes.  Almost 100,000 biscotti later and a new commercial bakery with a coffee shop in the West Sidney Business Park, Melinda's Biscotti supplies customers in three provinces.  Now with plans for growth and expansion, the future is looking bright for BC's newest and best biscotti.

BODY

The Ugly Truth

Two simple facts...

  1. What goes onto your skin, goes into your body
  2. Hazardous chemicals, linked to cancer and birth defects, do not belong in cosmetics

The ugly truth, is that there are many ingredients in your daily beauty routine that are more than likely harming your health (unless of course you have already switched over to safer alternatives).  The 'uglier truth', is that there are little to no regulations in regards to the use of these harmful ingredients in your cosmetics.  The harmful ingredients include hazardous chemicals, potential carcinogens, known hormone disruptors, allergens, and ingredients linked to birth defects and infertility.  Whether they are causing a headache, or a much larger life threatening disease, they do NOT belong in your cosmetics.

Megan Johns is the owner/operator of the Green Kiss, a retailer of safe, smart and sexy cosmetics from North America's most effective safe cosmetic brands.  Your style and your health are our priority!

She is based out of Victoria, BC Canada.  The beauty bar is located at 764 Fort St. in the heart of downtown Victoria. She has started as a innovative 'store within a store' model and is located within The Good Planet Company.
