Join us on March 1 for the 2017 Architects Blitz the Capitol event!  We've made a few changes this year which we think you're going to like.

First the cost to attend this year has been reduced!  It's just $25 if you register before February 15th!

Because of the Capitol renovation, we have to meet outside the Capitol for our legislative briefing but this gives us an opportunity to add a couple of additional speakers!  And thanks to the generous support of Old Surety Life Insurance gives us more elbow room too.

BRIEF (2:00 - 2:45 p.m.)

At 2:00 p.m. we will meet at Old Surety Insurance and 5201 N. Lincoln Boulevard for an hour of continuing education which will include:

Legislative Briefing by Jan Loftis:

Jan has worked in and around Oklahoma State government for many years, beginning with her work in 1980 in the President Pro Tempore’s office in the Oklahoma State Senate, while working on her master’s degree.  Beginning in 1986, she served six years as the legislative liaison for the Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services, and then became coordinator of constituent services for former Lieutenant Governor Jack Mildren.

In 1995, Jan Loftis founded her own government relations and association management firm, Gilmore Communications, LLC.  In addition to representing AIA Oklahoma, Jan’s current clients include General Motors, Beer Distributors of Oklahoma, Oklahoma Academy of Physician Assistants, American Congress of Obstetricians & Gynecologists and the Oklahoma Women’s Coalition. She is well regarded among her peers as an effective lobbyist, with great relationships and institutional history and knowledge of the ever-changing legislative process.

Jan graduated from Oklahoma City University with a Bachelor’s in Music Performance and lives in Oklahoma City, where she is active in numerous community affairs.

Talking with your Legislator: Trait Thompson

Trait Thompson was named Project Manager of the State Capitol Restoration Project in July 2014 by Preston Doerflinger, Director of the Office of Management and Enterprise Services.  Prior to that, Trait served as Legislative Director and Senior Policy Advisor to President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman in the Oklahoma Senate.  In addition to his experience in state government, Trait has worked in the business consulting, nonprofit, and telecommunications fields.  He graduated from Oral Roberts University with a degree in Finance and from Texas A&M University with a Master’s degree in Public Administration.  He is the chairman of the State Capitol Preservation Commission and a board member of Friends of the Capitol.  He is also an adjunct professor in the Political Science Department at the University of Oklahoma.  Trait’s wife, Sara, is a wedding planner and they have two young children.

and we will end with a talk from a local legislator (to be announced soon).

BLITZ (3:00 - 5:00 p.m.)

Attendees will head to the Capitol to visit legislators.  While there, you will have an opportunity to take a tour and learn more about the current Capitol Restoration project.
