Behind the Lines Part 2- Moving Toward Farmworker Safety
With the increasing risk of wildfires, Sonoma County’s wine and agricultural sectors are under significant pressure to save crops and livestock from fire and smoke in evacuation zones. However, it is farmworkers who are counted on to work in dangerous conditions and at times within the evacuation lines. Join Los Cien to hear from diverse perspectives on how to resolve these conflicting pressures. Our panel will offer insight into the pressing questions facing our workers and our entire agricultural industry: Who is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of our farmworkers? What are safety measures in place to protect them? How do vineyard owners, managers, political figures, and the workers themselves balance safety and the need to preserve the region’s vital agricultural economy?
