About Dr. Donna M. Beegle

Donna Beegle grew up in generational poverty and left school at 15 to get married. At 25, she found herself divorced with two children, little education, and few marketable job skills. At age 26, she earned her GED at Mt. Hood Community College. She went on to study poverty, communication, and education and--within 10 short years--received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Dr. Beegle combines her lived experiences of poverty with 30 years of research and work in all 50 states, to create inclusive, responsive environments that promote lifelong success.

Winter 2021 Beegle Poverty Immersion Institute - Virtual Training

This intensive two-day Poverty Institute provides a grounded understanding of poverty and what you can do to more successfully assist people in moving out – and staying out – of poverty. This seminar is designed for professionals from the fields of justice, education, health, social service, faith-based and community organization members.

What others have to say about these institutes

This institute will be provided virtually. We have hosted several institutes virtually due to the social distancing regulations of the current pandemic. Below are comments from our participants about these virtual events:

  • It's always good to be aware of what our students are dealing with on a daily basis. This training provided more insight into the infamous "why." I love that Dr. Beegle provided her own experiences to help bring a human voice to this epidemic.
  • I got more information about poverty and how to properly and respectfully address those who are in the crisis of poverty. This will helpme and my team overcome myths and work towards a more humanized way to support and help people navigate the multiple systems.
  • The homework was great because it helped me to understand what people in poverty juggle with on a daily basis and the extremely hard decisions they have to make.
  • I love the breakout rooms and the deep discussions we had. It helped me see that I wasn't the only one with certain feelings, frustrations, etc.
  • Every portion of this Institute provided insight and information that impacted my life and work professionally and personally.
  • In some webinars, a person can kind of multi-task and pay only half attention, and still get most of it. This was not like that! Highly interactive, LOADED with information. It caught and kept my full attention and kept me thinking and taking notes the whole time. High value here.
