February 5, 2013 Yakima Chapter Meeting - Alaska Way Viaduct Replacement 

This month we have the opportunity to learn about one of the exciting projects under construction in the Seattle area.  The Alaska Way Viaduct project is a multi-phase project to replace the State Route 99 bridge/viaduct along the Seattle waterfront with a new viaduct and tunnel.  To complete the project, the world's largest-diameter tunneling machine had to be custom built and will begin tunneling the summer of 2013.  The SR 99 tunnel is scheduled to be open to traffic in 2015 with an overall viaduct replacement budget of $3.1 billion.
