After the Internet and eBooks: The Future of the Information Society Webcast

This is a 60 minute pre-recorded webcast. With our online anytime format, you will immediately receive the link to the webcast, password and the link to the webcast handout upon successful registration. You do not need any special software to view and listen, just a computer!  Since passwords are changed frequently, we suggest viewing the webcast as soon as possible after registering.

Description:

Once upon a time, many thought the Internet was the final frontier for library technology. Then smart phones, new iPads, and eBooks began to dominate the scene. What new technologies are on the radar that might impact how libraries, schools, universities, government agencies, and businesses provide their services? How will social media, voice and face recognition, artificial intelligence, and 3-D printing impact your organization and customers?

Agenda: Click here for agenda

The Key Idea: Technology changes society’s expectations of how information and services are delivers, and libraries are usually behind the curve.

Outcomes:

  • Recruit technology scouts to keep staff and board aware of new tools impacting your library and its customers.
  • Evaluate how technology is part of your library’s strategic plan.
  • Partner with libraries and institutions more technologically “advanced” in order to test tools more efficiently.
  • Identify sources of reliable information about future technologies.
  • Recruit library users, board members and staff to create advisory board to guide technology decisions.
