COURSE DESCRIPTION
DBT in Action: Case Based Training© is for individuals who have been practicing DBT Individual Psychotherapy in the context of a comprehensive program. This training will build on existing skills and provide opportunities for feedback and consultation designed to increase the capacities necessary for certification in Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
Participants will follow a client named “Lisa” through Stage 1 DBT. Participants will function as “Lisa’s” individual therapist and conduct sessions that include pre-treatment, commitment, chain analysis and the interventions that are chosen as part of solution analysis. Strategies will be identified, coached and strengthened by the trainers and other participants. As some participants conduct DBT individual therapy sessions and/or presenting cases, other participants will identify strategies in individual therapy sessions, looking for what is DBT and what is not, and focus on the provision of effective DBT consultation.
Additionally, participants will bring a case formulation of one DBT individual therapy client to the training for consultation.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This training is designed for anyone with experience with individual psychotherapy in DBT. It will assume a strong baseline knowledge of the structure and components of treatment. Trainers will not take time to orient to basic content of DBT. Prior training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and substantial experience providing DBT individual psychotherapy is expected.

FORMAT AND TEACHING METHODS
This workshop will include power point slides and handouts, but the vast majority of the training will be interactional: demonstrating and discussing the effective use of DBT’s principles and strategies in individual therapy, consultation team, and skills groups; then having participants practice with coaching and feedback. Taking the DBT practice of participants “to another level” is accomplished by focused, practical, experiential teaching (role-plays, practice exercises) with lots of feedback and discussion; with use of case examples from the instructors and the participants, and the occasional use of a video from the instructors.
