DBT: An Overview of the Skills
Friday, February 10, 2017
Earn 6 units of Continuing Education

COURSE OVERVIEW

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) was developed by Marsha Linehan, Ph. D. at the University of Washington to treat multi-diagnostic individuals with severe emotion regulation disorders. DBT has been successfully applied to a variety of presenting problems, including substance abuse, self-injury, and suicidal adolescents and adults. We invite you to our one-day overview of the four modules and corresponding skills of DBT. Modules teach skills in the following areas:

Emotion Regulation- How to manage emotions more effectively

Distress Tolerance – How to be in a bad situation without making it worse

Interpersonal Effectiveness – How to ask for what you want and say NO effectively

Mindfulness – How to be present in the moment in order to be more effective

Research shows increasing skills in these areas can help clients manage intense emotions, build and keep healthy relationships and reduce impulsive reactions. With an overview of these skills clinicians can walk away with a better understanding of how to apply these skills, and how their clients can benefit.
