Praises to our incredible God!

We pray that this week of study will strengthen your faith and increase your knowledge in the Word of
God.  The purpose of Christian Education Week is to provide you with instructional opportunities that reflect four paradigms of spiritual enrichment. They include Personal Spiritual Growth, Biblical Studies, Church Doctrine and the Christian Family.  We pray that these classes will prove to be beneficial to you and that you will leave this week inspired, enlightened, and excited about serving God.

In memory of Rev. Dr. Drew E. Marshall (April 16, 1953 –June 25, 2011), we have  given this name for our week long celebration.  We all know that Christian education was a passion of Pastor Marshall’s and that this week was always dear to his heart.   It is our prayer that the Lord’s blessings are upon the Rev. Dr. Drew E. Marshall Christian Education Week of the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Pontiac, Michigan.

Rev. Dr. John D. Tolbert,

Senior Pastor, Trinity Missionary Baptist Church

PERSONAL SPIRITUAL GROWTH

Recognizing and Using My Spiritual Gifts

Spiritual growth and reaping its blessings is a work of the Holy Spirit.  Paul reminds us that there are two kinds of spirituality:  the false and the true.  In 1 Corinthians chapters 12-15, we are told about true kinds of spirituality, and in particular, spiritual gifts (12: 7-11).  No one gift is superior to another and they all come from God for the purpose of building up the church, helping it to function more effectively and to bring us closer to Him.  Do you know what spiritual gift or gifts God has bestowed upon you?  This class will help you recognize your gifts and teach you how to use them to minister to the needs of others, especially your fellow believers.

Your Relationship With Jesus:  Fan or Follower?

ARE YOU FOLLOWING JESUS OR ARE YOU A FAIR WEATHER FAN OF JESUS?  Ask yourself this: When entering a personal storm, am I following Jesus? During a personal storm, am I still following Jesus? And when coming out of a storm and there is sunshine and blue skies, am I even more inclined to follow Jesus? If you are serious about finding out if you are a fan or follower, this workshop is for you! Psalms 119:71

BIBLICAL STUDIES

Transformed by Grace: The Power to Say No

Wouldn’t you love to know how to say no to sin instead of yes? What has the power to teach us to say no to sin? Not the law of God, or the fear of getting caught, or living in the right community. It is grace—only grace—that has the power to teach us to say no to ungodliness and to renounce the sinful desires of this world, and to live instead a life that is pleasing to God. This is the sanctifying power of the grace of God. (Titus 2; 11-12).

Paul’s Letters: Applications to His Life and Yours

This workshop will present the framework for how Paul produced his letters and the teaching found within his letters; reflecting the background of his life and the social dynamics of the ancient world. Attention will be focused on moving from Paul’s production of ideas to their contemporary application to his life and more importantly to your life.

CHURCH DOCTRINE

The Doctrine of the Holy Spirit

This workshop will study the person and work of the Holy Spirit, including a thorough look at the corresponding church doctrines that impact our understanding of the work of the Holy Spirit.  Traditional church lingo is also de-mystified as the instructor explains in terms of today’s culture the significance of the Holy Spirit as the third Person of the Trinity.

THE GREAT COMMISSION

The Great Commission:  Going from Lip Service to Doing

Jesus calls His disciples to make disciples of all nations (Matt: 28).  First, are you a disciple and how do you know?  This workshop will give you the answer to that question and much more, such as a review of the Great Commission, the basics of what one must know in order to do what Jesus asked, at work, at home, at church, out and about in public and in places where it is most needed that challenge our comfort level. You will leave the workshop better equipped to lead others into discipleship.  Deliberately living out discipleship means leading others into discipleship.

The Great Commission:  A Personal Calling

Jesus calls every Christian to step out on faith and spread the Good News. It could be spreading the Good News to our neighbors or moving to another town or country to reach the people there. It could be sharing it with the less fortunate children in the neighborhood or spreading the Word in a town two hours away. Wherever we go, every faithful Christian is compelled through obedience to share the Gospel. Where has He called you to go? Who has He put on your heart to share the gift of salvation? What small or large steps can you take to “make disciples of all nations”? Participants in this workshop will examine the above questions and others relating to this personal calling.  They will also learn how to create a personal strategy for fulfilling the Great Commission.

YOUTH WORKSHOPS  (Grades 6th - 8th and 9th - 12th)

Knowing God for Myself:  Fan or Follower?

Are you a fan of Jesus?  What is your answer?  You attend every movie starring a certain actor, you know the stats of your sports hero, and you can recite lyrics from your favorite songs. In short, you're a huge fan. Are you treating Jesus the same as the other people you admire? Are you doing and believing based on what your parents or others know about Jesus? At some point you have to know Jesus for yourself. He's looking for people who are actually willing to sacrifice in order to follow him; not a fan.  If the church is to maintain its energy and influence in our communities, our youth must learn how to “go fish” for their peers based on what they know about HIM.  Will you be a fan or a follower?

CHILDREN'S WORKSHOPS  (Ages 3 & 4,  Grades K - 2nd,  3rd - 5th)

Got Salvation?

Through stories, adventure, activities and skits, this workshop will present the plan of salvation in clear and concrete ways for our children. Not only will they learn the ABCs of Salvation, but they will be introduced to the Romans Road and humanity’s need for the Savior. Each child will walk away not only knowing what it means to be saved but how to share Christ’s gospel with others.
