2018 Rhode island scholastic state chess championship 

The RI official Scholastic State Chess Championship competition for grades K-4, 5-6, 7-8, and 9-12 will be held March 24! In addition to determining the scholastic state champions, this tournament is open to out of state players and will include special team trophies for those competing on behalf of a school.

Format: 4SS, G/45 D5 (everyone plays 4 rounds unless he or she gets a bye)
Sections: · Grades K-4 · Grades 5-6 · Grades 7-8 · Grades 9-12
Trophies to top 3 individual places & top 3 teams in each section. Byes must be requested in advance.

2018 DENKER TOURNAMENT OF H.S. CHAMPIONS: TOP 1st PLACE RI GRADE 9-12 player in this section of the tournament may be chosen to represent RI at the 2018 Denker Tournament of High School Champions. (Note: the RI STATE CHAMPION will be the top RI finisher in the section. Should tie scores occur, the winner will be based on our tournament tiebreakers; there will be no blitz playoff.)  SENECA, as the official USCF affiliate for RI, has the right to name the RI representative to both the Denker and Barber national tournaments.  Consideration will be given to final score, availability, and rating.

Team Competition: A school team’s total score is calculated by adding points from the top three players in a given section. Players must be from the same school. A team must have 3 or more players in one section to be considered a team in that section. Be sure to list your school on the entry form. Teammates will not play each other for the first two rounds. The top three teams and top three individuals in each section will receive trophies. This is an individual tournament with extra team prizes.  Those who qualify will be competing for both.

USCF Membership Required for ALL Players: This should be purchased online or by phone before the tournament. For USCF membership options, go to: www.uschess.org, or call (931) 787-1234.

Door Registration: 9:00 AM to 10:00AM. Round 1 starts at 10:30AM.

Check in from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Grades K-6 will usually finish by 3:00 PM.

Please bring a clock if you have one. Boards and sets will be provided. Food available on campus and nearby.

Entry Fee: Advance entry only $35 if paid online by 11:59pm 3/22/18, $50 at site. Online registration preferred. Should be at site to confirm your online registration by 10:00 AM.

WALK-IN ONSITE REGISTRATION WILL BE ACCEPTED FROM 9AM UNTIL 10AM.

ONLY CHECK OR CASH WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR WALK-IN REGISTRATION. No credit or debit cards will be accepted.

Directions: From North, take Exit 21 off I-95, turn right onto Atwells Ave. From South, take Exit 21 Broadway, at 2nd light turn left on Atwells Ave. Go 1.4 miles take right at Mt. Pleasant Ave, go straight 1.2 miles. Go thru campus to Mann Hall, right into student union parking.
