2024 Rhode Island Scholastic State Chess Championship

The 2024 RI Scholastic State Championship is a chess tournament for Rhode Island players in grades K-12. This tournament will determine the scholastic state champions. The event is NOT open to out-of-state players.

5SS, G/25 d5 (everyone plays 5 rounds unless he or she gets a bye)

Trophies to top 3 individuals in each section.

Byes must be requested in advance. Limit 1 half-point bye per player. Byes in rounds 3, 4, and 5 are irrevocable and must be requested before the start of round 1.

Entry Fee
$40 online by 3/14/24 at 11:59 PM (or sooner if venue sells out)
NOTE:  We expect this event will likely sell out.  If you intend to compete in this event, it is critical that you sign up ASAP.

Onsite Registration
There is no onsite registration for this tournament. Registration will occur exclusively online.

Players must check in onsite between 8:45 AM and 9:15 AM.

Round Times
Round 1 - 9:30 AM
Round 2 - 11:00 AM
Round 3 - 1:00 PM
Rounds 4 & 5 - paired ASAP upon conclusion of previous round

Other Information
1. USCF membership is required for ALL players. This must be purchased or renewed by 3/14/24 at 11:59 PM. Players without an active USCF membership will not be paired. Join or renew at http://www.uschess.org/.
2. Players must compete according to grade. Playing up a section is NOT allowed in this event.
3. Please bring a clock if you have one. Boards and sets will be provided.
4. No outside food may be brought into the hotel.

National Tournament Qualification
A. The highest scoring player in the Grades 9-12 section will the RI nominee for the 2024 Denker Tournament of High School Champions.*
B. The highest scoring player in the Grades 6-8 section will the RI nominee for the 2024 Barber Tournament of 6-8 Champions.*
C. The highest scoring player in the Grades K-5 section will be the RI nominee for the 2024 Rockefeller Tournament of State Elementary School Champions.*
D. Should tie scores occur, the nominee will be determined using our tournament tiebreaks (listed below). There will be no blitz playoff.
* Nominations are subject to player availability and SENECA board approval based on the US Chess Code of Ethics. For purposes of determining compliance with the US Chess Code of Ethics, all conduct by a player may be considered, whether or not such conduct occurred in a USCF-rated event.
