Understanding Problematic People through Type  (9:30 – 12:30):

How can an understanding of type and type dynamics support us when we engage with people who are unhelpful, defensive, or simply lacking in integrity? What does it feel like when we ourselves behave in these problematic ways?  Applying John Beebe’s eight-function, eight-archetype model, we will explore what is happening when we tangle with people who seem to have a special knack for driving us crazy.  Illustrating the concepts with clips from classic films, Adam will illuminate the archetypes and functions at play, addressing the meaning disguised in these situations and suggesting a new approach to confronting them.

Finding Value in the Shadow: Unfamiliar Tools for Impossible Situations  (1:30 – 3:30):

Most of us wait until we are under stress to use the types of consciousness that are in our shadow.  Under attack, we may express those functions in ruthless, destructive ways. In this workshop, Adam will guide us in investigating why our tried and true ways of solving problems and resolving conflicts sometimes fail us.  We’ll look at situations in which the consciousness we need to reach a solution can only be found in our shadow, exploring the rewards and pitfalls of turning to our less-preferred functions for fresh ways of coping.
