History on Wheels: Technology and Innovation in America's Auto Industry

Explore how industrialization and innovation in the 19th and 20th centuries changed the way people traveled in American history, and explore the broad cultural contributions that the automotive industry has had on America.  Examine digitized primary sources from the Library of Congress and items from the Henry Ford Museum to learn more about the impact of new technologies in the automotive industry.  An NCHE team including an historian and education specialist will share strategies for using primary sources to engage students, build historical thinking skills, and construct knowledge. Explore The Henry Ford Museum and learn to use resources from the Library of Congress collections in your classroom. Create a lesson for your students with the guidance of the NCHE team.  Teachers will receive a $500 stipend and a one-year membership in the National Council for History Education.  Continental breakfast and lunch provided.
