Introducing the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Code 

Tune in to this must have discussion around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the investment industry – and stay informed on the latest updates regarding CFA Institute’s initiatives, aimed at developing a voluntary code designed to guide DEI.

As local societies and organizations increasingly look to integrate DEI disclosure requirements, CFA institute is leading the industry in developing these guidelines and recognizes that diversity of perspectives may achieve desirable outcomes for our communities.

Attendees will hear from Sanjana Vijayann, Liz Oakland, Jo-Ann Hajdamacha and moderated by Emily Burt as they examine developments in DEI and discuss ways in which we can create an inclusive investment industry that will better serve our societies diverse candidate/membership community.

Speaker's Biographies

Liz Oakland
Society Relations Manager
CFA Institute

Liz works primarily with CFA Societies in the Eastern US and across Canada. In her current role, Liz is a management consultant and relationship manager to each local office and board of directors where she consults on a broad range of areas: strategic planning, project management, board governance, organizational effectiveness, and operational improvement. She holds a Master’s Degree in English from Oxford University and an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia. Liz lives in Charlottesville, VA with her husband and two young daughters.

Jo-Ann Hajdamacha
Executive Director
CFA Montréal

Jo-Ann became CFA Montréal’s Executive Director in July 2021. In this role, she is responsible for the management and administration of the Society and for the implementation of the strategic plan established by the Board of Directors. She is also in charge of CFA Montréal’s overall visibility and, as such, works to raise the profile of the CFA designation and profession, optimize business development and create strategic synergies. Jo-Ann has more than 25 years of experience in human resources, membership and customer services, corporate event management and strategic development of corporate partnerships and communications. She has worked with a variety of associations in the financial, investment and entrepreneurial sectors, serving as an account director for Réseau Capital (venture capital and private equity association) and head of member services and sponsorships at Anges Québec (angel investment network). In recent years, she worked as an independent human resources consultant, helping small and medium-sized businesses grow and thrive. Jo-Ann is committed to staying current on the latest business management practices and recently completed a microprogram in organizational behavior at HEC Montréal.

Sanjana Vijayann
Manager of Diversity and Inclusion
The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce

Sanjana's education is in Economics and Political studies. This, coupled with lived experience as a newcomer to Canada and years working in non-profits, she is particularly interested in understanding why inequities exist, the systemic barriers that exist, and what we can do to create a more equitable world. Through her work creating and implementing diversity, equity and inclusion strategies, she seeks to question, reimagine and redesign systems and practices around us to create a culture that welcomes everyone. Sanjana continuously embodies values of continuous learning, and impactful collaboration. With her current role at The Chamber, Sanjana works to provide the Winnipeg business community with the resources and guidance they need to become more resilient, and ‘future proof’ while championing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Emily Burt, CFA
Executive Vice-President and Chair of the Board
Cardinal Capital Management, Inc

Emily is the Executive Vice-President and Chair of the Board at Cardinal Capital Management, Inc., located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She leads the business development and operations teams at Cardinal. Emily works closely with the President on strategic planning and is a part of the Senior Management team. Working with institutional and private clients across Canada and the United States, she assists clients in building and managing investment portfolios that will meet their long-term goals and objectives. Prior to joining Cardinal, Emily gained a number of years of financial services experience at Assante Wealth Management and TD Waterhouse in Toronto. Emily has a Master of Business Administration degree from York University’s Schulich School of Business and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. Emily currently serves as President of the board of directors of CFA Society Winnipeg and also sits on the Board of CFA Societies Canada.
