Two speakers from our home state of WI!

Ben Leon - Senior Developer at Hydrite Chemical Co.

Ben is a seasoned professional with 7 years of experience working with IBM i systems. With a focus on Business Intelligence (BI) and integrations, Ben has a wealth of knowledge and expertise to share. Throughout Ben's career, He has worked on complex projects and delivered solutions that have improved the efficiency and effectiveness of IBM i systems. With a deep understanding of BI and integrations, Ben is able to provide valuable insights and recommendations to organizations looking to enhance their use of IBM i. Ben's passion for technology and drive to continuously learn and improve make him an asset to any technical team.

Marina Schwenk - Senior Developer/Analyst at Everbrite LLC

Marina started her career in January 2015 at Everbrite LLC in Greenfield WI after graduating from Gateway Technical College in May of 2014 with an Associate’s degree in IT Software Development. Marina works as a Senior Programmer Analyst at Everbrite and her primary development is RPG, SQL and Java and she is also the IBM i admin at Everbrite. Marina earned her bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems Software Development from Bellevue University in June of 2017. Marina is currently an IBM Champion, the vice president for the Wisconsin Midrange Computer Professional Association(WMCPA) users group, a member of COMMON’S New to IBM i (N2i) committee, a COMMON board member, a member of COMMON America Advisory Council (CAAC), a private tutor in English and Programming for students at an associates or bachelor’s degree level, a public speaker on topics ranging from RPG, SQL standards and unit testing, and was named a IBM fresh face for 2019. She has also completed two open source projects the first is logging in RPG and IBMiUnit, a RPG unit testing framework.

Your IBM i with Power BI - Ben Leon

Business Intelligence (BI) is a vital aspect of modern organizations, providing insights and enabling data-driven decision making. Power BI is a leading BI tool that allows businesses to create interactive reports and dashboards from various data sources.

This presentation will focus on the integration of Power BI and IBM i. We will learn about the benefits of using Power BI with IBM i, including how it can help identify trends and patterns in data, understand key performance indicators, enhance collaboration and communication across departments and teams, and improve overall efficiency and effectiveness.

The presentation will also cover the steps to set up Power BI, create a report. By the end of this presentation, attendees will have a comprehensive understanding of how Power BI and IBM i (AS400) integration can help their organization make data-driven decisions.

 

Programming Standards and Guidelines - Marina Schwenk
(7:30pm - 8:30pm)

We have all unfortunately seen really bad code or really bad practices. Have you ever wanted to take that code and throw it against the wall and start over? This session will give you the steps and guidelines that will help you start the discussion so you and your colleagues can implement standards and guidelines and start the process of cleaning up your code or the code you have inherited. 
1. We will look over various different recommended programming standards and guidelines. 
2. we will look at bad code vs new code and make recommendations that you can take back and implement in your shop. 
3. We will learn why its important to have standards and guidelines and how you can start the standards discussions at your shop.
