Master Planning Open House & Survey 

Arboretum Friends - We invite you to help shape the future of your Yakima Area Arboretum by participating in our upcoming Master Planning Open House on August 19 and/or by taking our 15-minute master planning survey.

The master plan will help guide the future growth and development of the Arboretum grounds and facilities.  Arboretum staff, volunteers and the Board of Directors have been busy over the last several years to reach this important stage in the process and your input is a vital part of this effort. Here is your chance to tell us what you most want to see happen at the Arboretum in the years to come.  Do you want to see new pathways, display gardens or facilities?  Time to let us know.

There are two ways to participate and share your thoughts and opinions:

Attend our Master Planning Open House on Monday, August 19 from 6pm to 7:30pm where Arboretum officials and members of the consultant team will introduce the project, review the project’s vision and guiding principles, and listen to our community members’ ideas about where future efforts should be focused as the Master Plan moves forward.

Background
Established in 1967, by the Central District of the Washington State Federations of Garden Clubs (36 clubs in all) the Yakima Area Arboretum serves the community of Central Washington by providing horticultural and environmental education to people of all ages and backgrounds in an atmosphere of beauty and relaxation.  The Arboretum maintains a living museum of over 1000 specimens of trees, flowers, grasses and shrubs on 46 acres of land managed as collections, display gardens, a natural area, and an interpretive center.  We also offer an assortment of classes, large scale community events such as Arbor Festival and our popular candle-lit Luminaria walk, school field trips, kid’s summer nature day camp, hundreds of volunteer opportunities, and an adult naturalist program.  The Arboretum is also home to a number of garden clubs and societies who share the Arboretum's educational mission.  These community partners help us care for the Arboretum’s many display gardens and provide educational opportunities, while simultaneously using the Arboretum as a hub for their activities and shows.
