Doing Business with Government and Prime Contractors

How to Compete for Federal Government Contracts  

Working for the Government can provide a lucrative opportunity for companies that can provide the needed products and services In addition, the government has preferred treatment for specially qualified contractors.

It also encourages its major contractors to provide small companies with opportunities to become subcontractors with the resulting advantages.

However, working for the government requires adherence to specific rules involving registration and certification. The government also has its own set of rules for marketing and pricing.

This workshop provides and overview of the genera requirements for government contracting. Then, the workshop provides specific information on registration and on obtaining certification for preferred treatment.

Finally, the workshop gives specific recommendations for small businesses to get help in marketing the government and the large contractors.

Presenter

Dr. Fernandez has over fifty years of experience working for various parts of the Department of Defense (DOD). He worked as an engineer at the Lockheed Corporation, the Aerospace Corporation and a Rand spin off, R&D Associates. He founded and ran two separate R&D companies and served as Director of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the central research and development for the DOD from 1998-2001.

After Leaving DARPA in 2001, he served as a research Professor and special assistant to the President of Stevens Institute of Technology with responsibility for increasing the Institute’s R&D funding and management of the Institute Intellectual Property portfolio. After retiring from Stevens, he worked as a consultant to various small and large DOD contractors.

In addition, Dr. Fernandez has served as a member and Chairman of several Defense Advisory Boards, including the Defense Science Board (DSB), the Naval Research Advisory Committee (NRAC), and the Chief of Naval Operations Executive Panel (CEP).
