Throwing Power Part 1 - JudoFlex

Throwing Power explores creating empowered balance, whole body pulling, and dramatic improvements in sweeping leg power. Through a series of challenging biomechanical exercises, students explore where they are and where they can be in terms of mobility and power. The goal is to make changes that can be applied on the mat immediately.

The workshop is about the biomechanics of the body. We won't be doing eleven variations of osoto gari or the latest fashionable throws from the Grand Prix. We will work on your body, your balance, your hips, shoulders, abs and legs. Your strategies of movement.

The work is neither straining nor stretching but re-organizing the way you move to get maximum efficiency with minimum effort. Your brain may be more tired than your muscles when you are done! While we will present the work in the context of Judo, each segment is equally valuable to jujitsu players, other martial artists as well as dancers and athletes. Have a friend who appreciates the movements of Judo but doesn't want to take falls at a regular class? Invite them to join us on Sunday.

The workshop consists of four segments:

  • Better Balance - Working through a range of postures and "body puzzles" to organize better static and dynamic balance power.
  • Hikite (Pulling Hand) - Organizing the hand, arm, shoulder, head and eyes to develop greater pulling power
  • Crouch and Spring - Engaging abdominal muscles to improve explosive power for pulling and twisting
  • Hip Power - Remove parasitic motions that reduce hip joint mobility and engage more muscles to improving sweeping, reaping, and hooking strength.

Each segment starts easy and builds on what came before. This is Judo under the microscope. We are investing on making movements that are crystal clear and that lay done neural wiring that will allow you to do them again and again faster, stronger and more clearly.

Please join us in the first workshop of the Fall season!
