Xeriscape Your Yard Workshop
Saturday, March 2nd, 2013

What is a Xeriscape?
The term Xeriscape comes from 'Xeros' meaning dry and 'scape' meaning landscape.
Xeriscape is a method of landscaping, applied in dry or arid regions, that uses drought-tolerant, native plants that require little watering and maintenance once established.

The Oldman Watershed Council's Urban Team is excited to announce and invite you to a full day workshop by local garden design consultant, Steve MacRae of Prairie Xeriscape Designs. Learn hands-on and practical skills to design your own xeriscaped yard. The workshop will be held on Saturday, March 2nd, from 9am to 4:30pm at the Lethbridge College in the Cousins Science Centre (Cousins Building), classroom CB3013. Map. (Note: Parking is free on the campus on Saturdays).

The workshop will feature a combination of lecture, discussion and hands-on skills while incorporating the
7 principles of xeriscape
into your design. Learn how to assess soils and the best plants to use in different areas of your yard, based on the aspect, slope, drainage, and full sunlight hours they would receive.

The Urban Team's Prairie Urban Garden initiative aims to demonstrate the beauty and benefits of having a xeriscaped yard in southern Alberta. The Urban Team organizes a self-guided Prairie Urban Garden tour of local Lethbridge xeriscape yards to accomplish this goal and is excited to bring you their first ever Xeriscape Your Yard Workshop.  Please register below.

We only have room for 15 participants, so make sure to secure your spot!
